Aspire not to have more but to be more – St Oscar Romero
We began this week by learning about Remembrance Day. We had our minutes silence in the hall with the whole school and some were able to talk about watching the parade in the village on Sunday. We created poppy art using a variety of resources.
Our understanding the world text this week was 'Stanleys Stick'. They all really enjoyed this book and they were very creative thinking of their own uses of a stick and creating artwork using sticks. Our maths autumn detectives have also been using sticks. They compared amounts and lengths of sticks using mathematical language such as longer, shorter and 'medium sized'.
Our drawing club book has been the traditional tale of, 'The Elves and the Shoemaker'. We have been drawing the elves and describing them as well as thinking what mischief they could get up to! The children are really trying hard to add in more detail to their drawings and begin to sound out words, using their phonics, to describe characters and settings. If any writing opportunities should arise at home please encourage them to have a go; shopping lists, labelling things in the house, lists of their favourite toys etc. Even at this very early stage lots of the children can hear some of the sounds in words and can have a go at writing them using their sound mats.
We had a very exciting morning on Tuesday where we got to go out to be autumn detectives in forest school. We loved being outside with Mr Couper and enjoying all that forest school has to offer!
