Phonics and reading

We hope you are continuing to learn your sounds with Rosie by watching the Read, Write Inc. lessons. The lessons are available from 9.30am, but you can watch them anytime within 24 hours. Please watch and join in with the following videos:

  • Word Time - learning the sound and reading the words. Today's sound is 'ow'
  • Spellings - learning how to spell words using the 'ow' sound.
  • Reading Red Words 2
  • Reading Longer Words including the 'oo' sound.

These four videos are key to developing reading and writing skills. There are parts of the lesson which involves reviewing what they have previously learnt. Reviewing previous learning is important as it is making your child more confident reading and writing with these sounds. The new videos (Reading Red Words and Reading Longer Words) are essential to support your child become a more fluent reader.

Today I would like you to read the Blue Read, Write Inc. book called 'Save the Whale'. This book has more challenge than previous books read and has been chosen as it links to topic. You will learn lots of new facts about whales from reading the book but as it provides more challenge a little support may be needed to read the text.

Maths

Today's maths lesson focuses on describing position. Use the PowerPoint presentation lesson 3 to learn about this. Discuss the following questions:

Can you describe how this object has been turned?
Can you describe how it can be turned back to its original position?
Has this object moved left, right, up or down?
Can you record how it has moved on the grid?

Then complete the worksheet called 'Describing positions (1)'. Once you have completed this why not have a go at the activity called 'Doughnut positions'. That sounds very tasty! smiley

Afternoon activities

This week we continue with our topic based activities, which are available all week for you to 'pick and mix' from. Please follow the link below to choose your activity for today.
