Monday

Good morning to all our wonderful children and parents from Beech class,

I hope that your first week of learning from home has gone well and that you have had a fun weekend. I'm sure you have plenty of toys from Christmas to keep you busy! It's been lovely to see some of the work you have been completing at home. Well done to you all for your efforts last week! On a Monday morning each week you will have the following tasks to complete:

  • Read, Write Inc. phonics
  • Reading
  • Spellings
  • Maths

In school we usually have a Science lesson a Monday afternoon but you can choose which afternoon lesson you wish to complete each day. There will be a range of lessons to choose from on a seperate webpage.

PE with Joe Wicks

You may have heard that Joe Wicks is starting his PE lessons again! These will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. Why not start the day some exercise to get you ready for learning!

We love sharing some of the fabulous work you have been doing at home and I am sure you love to see what your friends have been up to. Here is Emily coming to you through two videos where she is sharing her history work; discussing one of her Christmas toys and her Granny's favourite Christmas toy from the past.

Read, Write Inc. lessons

Well done for learning your sounds every day last week! Today most of you will be learning the Set 3 sound 'o-e'. Watch the video 'Speed Sound with Rosie' and the 'Spelling with Rosie' video. As you are so good at knowing so many sounds now it is important we use the correct grapheme for spellings. Also watch the video 'Reading Longer Words', this focuses on the sounds 'o-e, ow and oa'.

Reading

In school we read a Read, Write Inc. book over three days. This helps us make great progress with reading and we want to keep that up, even when working from home. Each week you will be given a different book to read from the Oxford Owl website. Today I would like Year 1 children to read the book 'Greedy Tiger' and Year 2 children I would like you to read the non-fiction book 'Our Incredible Planet'.

Read, Write Inc. books

This is the first read of the book so today the focus is on decoding the words. Read the Green and Red words at the beginning of the book. Remember to 'Spot the Special Friends', 'Fred Talk' and then 'read' the words. Today's read may be fairly slow but the main thing is that the reading is accurate.

Spellings

Today I would like you to have a little spelling test of the words you learnt last week. Once you have done that start learning the next set of words. Remember if there were any that you didn't get right please keep practising them! There is a spelling grid to download which you may find helpful to practise the spellings, but feel free to learn them in whatever way works best. You may like to challenge yourself and write sentences using the words from your spellings list!

Maths

Year 1

Today Year 1 children you are continuing to learn about comparing numbers. Watch the video and then complete the worksheet.

Year 2

Today Year 2 children you have your last lesson of this unit on money. Today's lesson is definitely a challenging one, as you have to complete 2 step problems! Watch and listen to the video carefully and then complete the worksheet.

Well done for completing your morning. It's now time for a break and lunch before starting again this afternoon. smiley
