Tuesday

Good morning and welcome back Beech families!

Please read our welcome back message on the previous page if you haven't done so already.

We aim to provide daily lessons which progress from where we finished our learning in December. We hope you enjoy your first day of remote learning of the year! Today you have the following learning:

  • Speed Sounds lesson
  • Reading
  • Spellings
  • Maths

Speed Sounds lesson

Most children in Beech class have been learning Set 3 sounds in Read Write Inc. Speed Sounds lessons. Today you don't have the smiley faces of Mrs Rogers or Mrs Davies teaching, but instead you have the wonderful Rosie! I'm sure lots of you have missed her and will be pleased to see her again! Today your sound to review is 'ea'. Please watch the two videos; learning the sound, then reading and spelling the words. If you want additional challenge then watch the video called 'Reading Longer Words'. Please note some Year 1 children may not be ready for Set 3 sounds and you may prefer to watch the Set 2 sounds video which focuses on the 'ay' sound.

Reading

We would love you to carry on reading whilst you are learning from home as we recognise the importance of regular reading so that children make progress and become confident, fluent readers with good understanding.

We would encourage you to read any books you have at home with your child but also use the ebooks available on the Oxford Owl website. This website provides a fantastic range of reading books which match the levels of books your child brings home, please choose any books which are the same level. We will also encourage you to read a Read, Write Inc. book weekly. Today I would like Year 1 children to read 'Dragon Bay' and Year 2 children to read 'On Your Bike'.

Spellings

We would usually be testing the children on their spellings today. Please test your child at home and then share the new set of words with them. Practise the words as you usually would do over the week. Please download the spellings document so you can see which is the next set of spellings for your child.

Maths

Our learning in maths will continue following our 'White Rose' scheme which we use in class. We will include a teaching video followed by your worksheet. You can print this out, write the answers on paper or use a workbook. Don't forget to warm your brain up with the 'Get Ready' challenge at the start of the video. smiley

The work for Year 1 and Year 2 are included separately below. Enjoy!yes

Science

In Science lessons we have been investigating materials. Today I would like you to think about the story 'The Three Little Pigs'. If you have the story book at home please read it to remind yourself of the story or alternatively watch the short video.

Discuss the following questions:

  • Why couldn't the wolf blow the brick house down?
  • What words could you use to describe the straw house?
  • Why do you think one of the pigs chose to build his house from twigs?
  • What would you choose to build a house out of if you didn't have bricks?

I would like you to design a new house for all the pigs to live in. Your challenge is to think about the materials you would use. Draw your house on paper and then label the parts of the house and write what materials you would use. Think about what properties each of these materials have.

Have a fun first day of home learning together!
