English Autumn 2

English - Week 6

Commencing Monday 7th December

This week we are writing up our Manor House stories.  I'll be modelling a few paragraphs each day in class, focusing on different language features.  I have attached below some of the resources that you might find helpful.

I have shown below, which language features we will be concentrating on, on each day this week and I will post photos of the writing we do in class at the end of each day so that you can see how we used them.

Tuesday:

LO: To write the opening to a short story

Use your plan to help write the first two paragraphs of your own story.

Focus on: using different sentence openers (DADWAVERS); figurative language to help with powerful description (SHAMPOO); moving the adverbial phrase to different parts of the sentence, to vary sentence structure.

Wednesday:

LO: To write a short story

Use your plan to help write paragraphs 3,4 and 5 of your own story.

Focus on: using different sentence openers (DADWAVERS); figurative language to help with powerful description (SHAMPOO); using subordinate clauses in different places to vary sentence structure.

Thursday:

LO: To write the ending to a short story

Use your plan to help write the last two paragraphs of your own story.

Focus on: using different sentence openers (DADWAVERS); figurative language to help with powerful description (SHAMPOO); using short sentences and empty words to create tension.

We will be improving our stories on Thursday afternoon and writing them up next week.  :)

English Week 3 - Anti-Bullying Week
English Week 2 - The Day of the Dead Festival
Lesson 1:

2) Using the videos and the word bank to help you, write down what you might hear, see, touch, smell and taste if you were there

3)  Imagine you are visiting the celebration.  Write a diary entry about your visit and try to reflect the sorrowful and celebratory aspects of the festival.

4) Can you complete these questions?

Lesson 2: Re-watch the videos - imagine you were there and write down your thoughts and feelings.

2)  Using what you know about The Day of the Dead festival, either write a non-fiction information text about the festival (in the same style that you wrote about your imaginary monster) or write a descriptive setting narrative about being there, (in the same style that you wrote about Whitby Abbey)
