Phonics/Reading

We hope you are continuing to learn your sounds with Rosie by watching the Read, Write Inc. lessons. The lessons are available from 9.30am, but you can watch them anytime within 24 hours. Please watch and join in with the following videos:

  • Word Time - learning the sound and reading the words. Today's sound is 'i-e'
  • Spellings - learning how to spell words using the 'i-e' sound.
  • Reading Red Words 2
  • Reading Longer Words including the 'oo, ew, u-e' sound.

You may also find it useful to get your child to complete the additional activity called 'Read and Hold a Sentence'. This task is listed as another video on the RuthMiskin Youtube channel (link below) and teaches your child about writing sentences using correct spelling and punctuation. I have also included the information sheet for parents which gives additional information about this task.

Read and hold a sentence information for parents

Your book to read today is called 'At the Seaside'. It is a non-fiction book so hopefully you will learn lots of new things about the seaside. Remember to read the Speedy sounds, Story words, Speedy words and Red words before reading the book. You may prefer to read the book with someone in your house and take it in turns to read a page.

Spellings

It's time to have a little spelling test and start learning some new spellings! Please test your child on the spellings from last week and then give them a new set of spellings to learn.

Maths

Your maths lesson today focuses on comparing numbers. Use the PowerPoint lesson 2  and discuss the following questions:

___ > ___ and  ___ < ___.
___ is greater than ___. ___ is less than ___.
___ is greater than ___ but less than ___.
___ is _________ than ___ but _________ than ___.
How many ways can the table be completed to make the comparisons true?

There is a worksheet to complete where you compare numbers using the inequality signs (> < and =). You will also use language such as 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to'. Once you have completed the worksheet there are 2 other activities which you can complete if you wish, including some challenge cards.
