Focus story- Handa's surprise

Click on the link below and enjoy the story Handa's Surprise.

Handa's surprise stick puppets

You could print off and cut out the pictures below and stick them to a strip of card to make a stick puppet for the characters in the story and use them to act out the story. Can you remember what happens first, next and after that?

If you don't want to print them off you could draw your own pictures of the characters and the fruit and cut them out.

Handa's Surprise video

Watch our Loom video of the story Handa's surprise and some great ideas for your art work on drawing fruit! smiley

Art

This week we would like you to look carefully at some fruit - it could be some of the fruit from the story or maybe your favourite fruit or you could put a selection of fruit together. You are then going to look carefully and draw what you can see. You could ask a grown up to cut open a piece of fruit and draw the inside as well - remember to think about what you can see? What colours can you see? How big or small is the piece of fruit?

Understanding the world- science.

Have a look at the attached powerpoint (which you can print if you would like). Can you name the fruit and vegetables that are on it? Can you sort them into which is a fruit and which is a vegetable? Discuss where they grow; on trees? in the ground? on a bush?

Which is your favourite? Can you draw your favourite fruit or vegetable and write a sentence about why you like it.
