Friday 10thJanuary 2025 Oak Class Home Learning

Happy Friday Oak Class.

Another day at home! I hope you’re all ok and enjoying your time at home. Well done to everyone completing learning at home, I would like to give you a house point for every homelearning task you have completed (you can keep a note of them and add them when we are back at school).

Please ensure your usual homework taks are completed: daily reading including completing your reading diaries, timestable practise, spelling practise, 4Operations and MyMaths.

I will see you all on zoom today at 9:30am.

Activity 1

As we will be learning about rainforests in our coming Geography lessons, I thought you would enjoy this read about temperature rainforests in the UK!

Activity 2

Online safety activity. This activity will help you to consider that not everything you see on the internet is true and images can be edited to alter the original image.

  1. Go to Purple Mash and open the 2Do ‘2Paint a Picture’ and when asked choose the ‘eCollage’ option.

  1. Go to the PowerPoint and follow the instruction on slides 8-10.
  1. Don’t forget to hand in your images in so I can see your hard work! You could even screenshot them too if you want a copy to keep for yourself.
  2. Complete the 2Do ‘2Write Example’ answering the questions and then handing in.

Activity 3

Kahoot grammar quiz

Use the link and game pin or the QR code to join.

Activity 4

It’s been a while since we did some creative writing so I hope you enjoy this task of writing a short story inspired by the picture below.

Remember our topic for this half term in English is ‘monsters’ so you might like to write in the genre of horror (or not if you’d prefer a different genre like adventure or action).

Remember, you can you DADWAVERS to help your story flow well and SHAMPOO for figurative language (to create imagery for your readers).

Some sentence openers to help you get started:

  • In the depths of the snow covered forest, there was a noise...
  • It was the middle of winter and Eliza felt something was different today as she woke in her tiny, wooden cabin...
  • Beneath the luminous glow of the aurora borealis, a monster lurked in the shadows...
  • Suddenly, a blinding light filled the sky...

Remember to choose if you are writing in first, second or third person and whether you are writing mainly in the preset or past tense before you start writing. It's a good idea to make a quick plan of the events happening in the beginning, middle and end of your short story.

Your story can be typed or hand-written.

I look forward to reading them when we are back at school!

Activity 5

If you want to warm up today and work on your fitness then you could have a go at PE with Joe Wicks, he's no Mr Tweedie but he'll have to do smiley

Thursday 9thJanuary 2025 Oak Class Home Learning

Good Morning Oak Class smiley

Welcome to another day of home learning.

I will be meeting with you all at 9:30am today on a zoom call to have a catch up and a chat, so see you soon!

Activity 1

Complete MyMaths Homework

Year 5- multiplying by 10,100 and 1,000. Remember, look at the number of 0s in 10,100 or 1,000 to know how many places to the left to move each digit on the place value chart. Then place the same number of 0s at the end of the number to hold the place value.

Year 6- adding and subtracting fractions. Remember if the denominators are the same, just add the numerators. If the denominators are different, make both denominators the same then add the numerators.

Activity 2

Choose 10 words that you need to learn how to spell from the Y5/Y6 or Y3/Y4 Statutory spelling list and practise writing them out in your spelling journal until you know them.

Activity 3

Complete grammar activity set on Purple Mash.

Activity 4

Gymnastics lesson to complete at home with the video link below.

Home Learning Oak Class

Good Morning Oak Class!

I hope you stay safe and enjoy getting out to play in the snow today.

There are some activities for you to do today:

Activity 1

Use Google Earth to follow the journey of the Amazon River.

Answer the questions below on some paper:

  1. What colour is the Amazon River and why?
  2. What countries does it pass through?
  3. Where does it start and end?
  4. Which ocean is its source and which ocean does it flow into?

Use the internet to answer these questions:

  1. Where does the Amazon river get its name from?
  2. How long and wide is the Amazon river?
  3. What species of plants and animals live in the Amazon river?

You can display your findings on a paper in bullet point form or you can create a poster about what you found out, you may even wish to add some extra fun facts you find out in your research!

Activity 2

Snow activity.

Hopefully, you’ve had some time to get outside and enjoy the snow and you are full of creative inspiration!

Choose from one of the following activities:

  1. Write a free verse, rhyming or acrostic poem about the snow. You may even want to create a rap or song.
  2. Create a snow sculpture and take a picture to email to me at oak@stpauls.cheshire.sch.uk
  3. Create a piece of artwork inspired by the snow, you can use any medium including: sculpture, paint, pencils, felt tips, craft materials.

I look forward to seeing your work and you when we return to schoolsmiley
