Good morning to all our wonderful Beech children and parents!

I hope that you have managed to have a good rest this weekend and you have had some fun playing with some of those Christmas presents! Mrs Davies and I are so proud of how hard you are working and it really does make us so pleased to see the fantastic work you are doing.

At some point today you will receive an email from me with a username and log in for a website called Yumu. Yumu is linked to our music scheme we use in school called Charanga. Yumu gives us the opportunity to share music fantastic lessons with you. You don't need to do anything with this today, just check you get one and then tomorrow you will start a scheme of music work, More information about this tomorrow!

Speed Sound Lesson

Here are the sounds you will be learning today;

• Set 2 sound is 'ir'
• Set 3 sound is 'er'

Please watch and join in with the videos, both the reading and spelling video linked to the sound. 

Year 2 children please watch the video called 'Reading Longer Words'. This video today focuses on the graphemes 'ou/ow'. 

Now that we are getting into the swing of regular Read, Write Inc. lessons online it would be great if you could also start watching the additional video which will help with writing. If your child is learning Set 2 sounds then use the video called 'Hold a Sentence 1'. If your child is learning Set 3 sounds then use the video called 'Hold a Sentence 2'. These video can be found on the same YouTube channel as the other Read, Write Inc. videos. Please encourage your child to do this task daily. 

Reading

This week your Read, Write Inc. book is a non-fiction book. Year 1 children I would like you to read the book called 'Baboons' and Year 2 I would like you to read the book 'On Your Bike'. This is your first read of the book so take time to read the sounds, Green words and Red words before reading the text. I wonder what you will find out from reading the book this week?

Spellings

Well done for all of you who have been practising your spellings over the week . Now it's spelling test time! Have test of your spellings you were given last week and then look at your new set for this week. Remember if there were any that you found difficult to keep practising those. You may like the extra challenge of writing the words that you have been given for your spellings into sentences. 

If I have worked this out correctly, Year 1 children will potentially be on spelling set 30 and Year 2 children should be on spelling set 41. Please just use the sheet below and use the next set of spellings. 

Maths

Year 1

Today your maths is about adding one using number bonds to 10. You have two days on this objective so just do the first part of the sheet (questions 1-4). 

Year 2 

Today you are learning about multiplication sentences using pictures. Watch the video and then complete the worksheet. 

Science

Today I have used videos to explain our Science lesson called 'We Are Wonderful Animals Too!'. To start with you need to think back to last weeks' lesson to play our game called 'What Am I?' Have fun!
