Aspire not to have more but to be more – St Oscar Romero

Monday 1st June

Good morning Galileo class,

I hope you have had a love half term with your families and enjoyed time outside with this lovely sunny weather. It's the start of another exciting half term for us and we are going to be diving under the sea to learn lots of new things! Please watch the video to learn a little bit more about our plans for the next seven weeks of learning.

Welcome back

Phonics/Reading

Please continue to learn/revise the sounds by joining in with the Read, Write Inc. lesson. Even if you know the sounds now the lessons are good to help develop your reading and writing skills.

Please watch the Set 3 sounds lesson. This is now available from 9.30am daily. There are also new videos to watch which will be helpful if your child is confident with the sounds. There is a video focusing on reading longer words and another reading Red Words. If your child is a confident reader, please watch the Red Words 2 video, this will be suitable for most Year 1 children but if your child does find this difficult watch the Red Words 1 video instead.

Here is the link to the Read, Write Inc. video and also some information of what Red Words are. This information sheet also mentions another activity called 'Read and Hold a Sentence'. The 'Read and Hold a Sentence' videos will follow in subsequent weeks so there's no need to read this at the moment, just focus on the Red Words.

Today I would like you to read the story 'The Radish Contest'. Please remember to read the sounds, Green Words and Red Words before reading the book. If you find this book too challenging choose a Purple/Pink book or  if you need more of a challenge choose a Blue/Grey book. Please ensure you select from the Read, Write Inc. book series on the Oxford Owl website. The book chosen should provide challenge and the first time of reading should involve lots of sounding out the words. Have fun reading!

Maths

Today's maths lesson is reviewing what you learnt about halving before the holidays. There isn't a presentation to view today but you have 3 things to complete; an activity colouring in half, a game finding half and an investigation to find a half. I hope you enjoy your challenges!

Topic

This week there's lots of new topic work to choose from including Art, Science and Geography. There are also some resources which you may find helpful which will help children to understand about coronavirus and social distancing in a lovely child friendly way.

Have a lovely day smiley
