Bank Holiday

Hi Brunel,

As you will know from the work and activities you have been set this week, today is a bank holiday commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE day. Although social distancing means large gatherings and parties have been cancelled, there are still other ways we can mark the day during lockdown.

A two-minute silence is taking place at 11am. Then, at 3pm, there is The Nation's Toast to the Heroes of WW2, with people across the country standing up and raising a glass of their favourite drink while saying the following toast: "To those who gave so much, we thank you." I thought it might be nice if we all photograph ourselves making this toast. If you post your photos on the blog, I will create a 'Brunel VE Day 75th Anniversary Celebration Poster!'

As part of your DT work set on Wednesday, Miss Flatley asked you to prepare your own VE day celebration. I would love to see how you celebrated this special day so don't forget to post photographs of your celebration.

If you are at a loose end, I have uploaded a copy of this week's 'First News'. You can find out more about VE day and other topical news stories.

Enjoy a well-earned break!

Take care.

Mrs Dixon
