Thursday 18th June

Good  morning Year 2's. It was lovely to see some of you appearing on the Wednesday Word Zoom meeting. I watched the video later on which cut off after 3 minutes, so I don't know what was in Mrs Smith's box; maybe you could let me know through our blog!

Our Literacy written task today...

Our literacy learning for today is to write our character description of Dougal inside our 'lift the flap' booklets we made yesterday. If you have done your picture of Dougal on the front then you can now cut 4 equal sized 'doors' into it. Like this...

Here is a scaffold idea you may like to use...

A little reminder of some of the 'ly' and 'ally' words we looked at yesterday. You may like to try to use these in your description.

Your Maths Learning Today

The next week of maths learning (following our curriculum) is an opportunity to apply our knowledge and skills  to problem solving activities. These will be more open ended tasks; but we will select a different online starter lesson, revision activity or quiz in place of our usual power point.

If you collected our new learning pack you will have a set of 'Problem Solving and Efficient Methods' worksheets dated from the 15th June. They look like this...

Sheets in your most recent learning pack...

Today I have selected a lesson from 'The Oak Academy Trust'; a website geared towards supporting home learning. This should act on revision of our recent work on 'Position and Direction'...

I would suggest that you try the starter quiz, you may like to watch the lesson and complete the final quiz. Unless you really want to, I wouldn't worry about completing the worksheet. In the pack I have highlighted above you will find these 'Treasure Hunt' sheets that link in quite nicely to Dougal's treasure find! Have a go at finding the treasure. To give the coordinates, read across the bottom first and then go up. For example the pirate flag on the boat is in the square with the coordinate( H,3).

Use the pack I have shown above as a 'pick and mix' to choose which problems (and how many) you would like to try each day. We will also set a 'chilli challenge' problem each day too. You can print these off if you are able to or use your green books to help you to work out the answers.

***These are not in your present pack; they weren't quite ready when we gave them out***.

We will provide maths worksheets in the coming week (useful to save on printing!)

Problem solving additional challenges ... with answers included so you can check! Some of these are tricky!

yesGood luck and have fun with these!smiley

Our other curriculum topic activites...

Can be found by following the link below. SSSHHHH don't forget to make a little something for dad. There are ideas on this page!wink

Have a lovely day... there is more rain on the way, but our plants should be being helped!
