This week we have a choice of read, write inc book to read. Either read Jam Tarts or Horses. If you find this book is too challenging consider reading a Purple or Pink level book or if you need more challenge consider reading a Yellow or Blue level book but please choose a book from the Read, Write Inc series. Remember that this is the first read so lots of sounding out to read the words is expected. A range of books can be found on the Oxford Owl website and you can search by series.

Spellings

It's Monday, which means its time to have a little spelling test and start learning some new spellings! Please test your child on last weeks' spellings and set them a new set of spellings for this week. Remember to carry on practising any spellings your child struggled with previously. If you want your child to have an extra challenge use the words from the spelling lists in sentences.

Maths

Today's you are starting a new unit in maths focusing on fractions. The first lesson's objective is making halves. Use the PowerPoint presentation lesson 1 to learn about making halves. Use the sheets to learn about splitting objects in half and discuss the following questions:

What is a half?

How can you recognise a half?
Can you split this in half?

Is there more than one way to split this in half?
How else could we split it in half?

How can we check we have split the shape correctly?
Can we use a line to split this shape in half?

How many equal parts does this shape have?

There's also an activity which you can complete called 'Halving Shapes'.

If you would like to follow the link below it will take you to the afternoon activities page where you can select from our 'pick and mix menu' of activities! smiley
