Monday 15th June

Good morning Galileo class,

I hope you have all had a nice weekend, enjoying the lovely sunny weather. Welcome to the start of another week learning from home!

Here is the plan for today...

Phonics/Reading

We hope you are continuing to learn your sounds with Rosie by watching the Read, Write Inc. lessons. The lessons are available from 9.30am, but you can watch them anytime within 24 hours. Please watch and join in with the following videos:

  • Word Time - learning the sound and reading the words. Today's sound is 'ow'
  • Spellings - learning how to spell words using the 'ow' sound.
  • Reading Red Words 2
  • Reading Longer Words including the 'oo' sound.

These four videos are key to developing reading and writing skills. There are parts of the lesson which involves reviewing what they have previously learnt. Reviewing previous learning is important as it is making your child more confident reading and writing with these sounds. The new videos (Reading Red Words and Reading Longer Words) are essential to support your child become a more fluent reader.

This week we are starting to dive under the sea learning about the oceans and sea life! Today you have some fact cards about sea creatures, read the fact cards and then answer the comprehension questions. You will find these sheets in your previous Home Learning pack. I wonder, what the most interesting fact will be that you learn today...

Maths

Today is your final lesson focusing on describing and as part of the lesson you will have an investigation to complete! To start with share the PowerPoint presentation lesson 3 and discuss the following questions:

How many different routes are there to get from __ to __?
Can you describe these routes?
Would you use clockwise or anticlockwise? Why?
What is the shortest route?

Your investigation then involves selecting cards and describing as many different routes using the correct terminology. I think you will have fun with this. smiley
