Reading and Phonics

Continue to revise your sounds by tuning into the Read, Write Inc. lesson with Rosie. Anytime from 9.30am. Complete the reading of the sound and also the spelling video. The sound today is 'oi'.

It would also be beneficial to join in with the other 2 short videos; 'Red Words 2' and 'Reading Longer Words'. These videos are only 5 minutes each and are key to children becoming confident and fluent readers.

Yesterday you read the book 'The Radish Contest'. Today I would like you to read this book again, your reading today should be more fluent with less sounding out. After reading, complete the comprehension questions at the back of the book. You may find it best to read the book a third time to feel confident to answer the comprehension questions as this book is more difficult than previous Read, Write Inc. books read.

Spellings!

It's time to have a little spelling test and start learning some new spellings! Please test your child on the spellings set before the holidays and then give them a new set of spellings for this week. Remember to carry on practising any spellings your child struggled with previously.

Maths

Today is the first lesson learning about finding quarters. Use the PowerPoint presentation lesson 1 to explore how different shapes can be split into quarters. Discuss the following questions:

What is a quarter?

How can you recognise a quarter?
Can you split this into quarters?

Is there more than one way to split this into quarters?
How else could we split it into quarter?

How can we check we have split the shape correctly?
Can we use a line to split this shape into quarters?

How many equal parts does this shape have?

You will find the presentation and worksheets below. The worksheet 'Make quarters' you can split the shapes into quarters and stick them in their Home Learning book. There is also an activity called 'Colour a quarter' which you may enjoy doing.
