Read the Read Write Inc book called ‘Up in the air' . This ebook can be found by logging into the Oxfordowl website (www.oxfordowl.co.uk). You will find the books by either searching by the book title or by selecting the 5-6 years age range.  Remember to practise the sounds and read the Green and Red words before reading the story. The first read of the story may involve lots of decoding the words by sounding out.

If you want an extra reading challenge today why not play a phonics game using the website below. There's lots of fun phonics games to choose from. Select the phase 4 or phase 5 option to give some challenge when completing the games.

There are some free games available but to get a larger range of free games can log into the website using the following details:

Spellings

It's Monday, which means its time to have a little spelling test and start learning some new spellings! Please test your child on last weeks' spellings and set them a new set of spellings for this week. Remember to carry on practising any spellings your child struggled with previously. If you want your child to have an extra challenge use the words from the spelling lists in sentences.

Maths

Today's maths lesson is focusing on making doubles. Use the PowerPoint presentation lesson 4 to learn about doubles. Today's tasks are intended to be more practical but the sheets to be used are attached if you prefer to print them out.

If you don't have access to a printer then there are a few options of how to complete this task. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Draw ladybirds without spots. Select a number randomly or using a dice. Draw the number of spots on the ladybird and then double it. Then write the sentences e.g. double 6 is 12. Repeat with different numbers.
  • Choose items from around the house e.g. pasta, pegs or Lego and then double it. You could draw pictures of what you started with and then what happened when you doubled. Write sentences e.g. double 4 is 8
  • There is also an activity called 'Cover the doubles' which you can download.

Music

Today we will continue our music sessions with another pirate themed song. Remind your child about what happened last time and how Nigel and Suki have set sail to find treasure. Today we will be listening to how each time the verse gets longer.
