Spelling Practice

Take some time today to practice your spellings. This will be the last week for these spellings, so try to get your best scores! You can use any of the techniques we have learnt to practice. If you would like some different activities, here are some sheets. There is one sheet for each word, so there are quite a lot to print out. Have a look at the ones that you keep getting wrong and maybe just do those ones.

English

L.O. To write direct speech

First, read through the beginning of Chapter 6 - Mr. Toad from the extract below. During this part of the story, Badger and Toad go into another room and have a discussion about Toad's behaviour. Badger makes Toad promise that he will start behaving better and will stop driving cars and getting into trouble. The author, Kenneth, Grahame doesn't write this conversation.

So, your task is to become an author. What do you think Badger said to convince Toad to behave better and how would Toad have responded? Write this up as a conversation.

If you need reminding how to use speech marks correctly, watch the YouTube video! You will remember it from when we watched it it class. (Parents, I'm sorry: it will be stuck in your heads for the rest of the day!)

If you are able to join me, I will do this lesson at 10:45 through Zoom. I will post the details on my blog.

The Direct Speech Song (Inverted Commas)

Here is the shared writing that we did on the live lesson, if you would like to edit, improve or add to it.

Maths

L.O. To measure objects

This week, we will be learning about measuring lengths. You can watch the 2 videos below to remind yourself about length and how to use a ruler accurately!

There is also an online activity to practise reading lengths using a ruler. Once you've done that, try it out for real. Find a selection of objects around your house or garden (try to do at least 10) and measure them as accurately as you can. There is a padlet below to record the name of your object and the length.
