Aspire not to have more but to be more – St Oscar Romero

Monday 27th April

Good morning to you all,

I hope that you enjoyed all your learning last week and that you have also had lots of time to play outside whilst we have had such lovely sunny weather. Thank you so much for keeping us updated with what you have been doing at home, both work which has been set and things you have chosen to do yourself. We really appreciate all the emails and blogs. Great work Galileo children and parents !

The plan for today:

Phonics and reading

Please carry on joining in with the Set 3 Read Write Inc. lesson at 10.30am this morning. Make sure you do the spellings after learning the sound and words.

Here is the link for the Read, Write Inc. lesson:

As well as learning your phonics today you you are going to listen and watch one of my favourite stories called Traction Man is Here. Later in the week Mrs Davies has some fun writing planned linked to this great story!

Once you have enjoyed the story please answer the questions. These questions are called VIPERS questions as each question covers a different aspect of comprehension questioning from the Key Stage One National Curriculum. Here is what the acronym stands for:

V - Vocabulary

I - Inference

P - Prediction

E - Explanation

R - Retrieval

S - Sequencing

Please consider asking these types of questioning when reading any type of text at home.

You can find a sheet with the questions on to download below. You can either print out the sheet or record the answers in your home learning books.

Please continue to read as often as possible. Remember to access the free ebooks at www.oxfordowl.co.uk

Traction Man Comprehension Questions

Spellings

It's Monday, which means its time to have a little spelling test and start learning some new spellings! Please test your child on last weeks' spellings and set them a new set of spellings for this week. Remember to carry on practising any spellings your child struggled with previously. If you want your child to have an extra challenge use the words from the spelling lists in sentences.

Maths

Today's maths lesson is focusing on recognising a quarter. Use the PowerPoint presentation lesson 5 to learn about quarters. Then complete the worksheet in your pack. If you want more challenge then please download the worksheets below (3 star sheets). There is also an additional activity called ' recognise a quarter' and an investigation to complete if you want some extra challenges to keep you busy!

History

For the next few weeks in history the focus will be on travel and transport. Today the focus is comparing modes of transport now and those in the past. Use the presentation and then complete the 1B worksheet. Once completing the worksheet why not sort the transport picture cards into old and new. Then think of different ways to sort the cards using your own criteria, such as transport with or without wheels, transport with or without an engine, etc. The resources should be found in your new home learning packs but all the resources are available below if needed.

Hope you have a great day! smiley
