Phonics

We hope you are continuing to learn your sounds with Rosie by watching the Read, Write Inc. lessons. The lessons are available from 9.30am, but you can watch them anytime within 24 hours. Please watch and join in with the following videos:

  • Word Time - learning the sound and reading the words. Today's sound is 'ow'
  • Spellings - learning how to spell words using the 'ow' sound.
  • Reading Red Words 2
  • Reading Longer Words including the 'oo' sound.

These four videos are key to developing reading and writing skills. There are parts of the lesson which involves reviewing what they have previously learnt. Reviewing previous learning is important as it is making your child more confident reading and writing with these sounds. The new videos (Reading Red Words and Reading Longer Words) are essential to support your child become a more fluent reader.

Reading

This week we are thinking about how to care for our planet. Over the week we will read a few books which help us think about how we can look after our wonderful world. Today I would like you to read the Read, Write Inc. book called 'Our Incredible Planet'. This is a Blue level book, and like the previous book, is more difficult to read. It's fine to get a grown up/brother/sister to help read this book. What can really help with reading is practising the Green and Red words at the front of the book.

Spellings

It's time to have a little spelling test and start learning some new spellings! Please test your child on the spellings from last week and then give them a new set of spellings to learn. Remember to carry on practising any spellings your child struggled with previously.

Maths

Today's maths lesson focuses on partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones. Use the PowerPoint presentation lesson 2 and discuss the following questions:

How many hundreds? tens? ones?
__ hundred, __ tens, __ ones = ____.
What is the numeric and written form of ___?
What happens when we have ten ones? Ten tens?
How many ones in ten? How many tens in one hundred?

The activity today is practical and requires resources. Before you start the resources cut out the place value counters (to download). It may be a good idea to ask someone to help you cutting these out as it will take a while! Once you have done this follow the instructions on the worksheet.
